Who does what

Cambridge Water, Anglian Water and who to call

Cambridge Water or Anglian Water depends on your address. CCW places Cambridge Water across Cambridge, out to Ramsey, Gamlingay, Balsham and Melbourn, and Anglian across the East of England. Your bill names your company.

Stop taps and supply pipes: where responsibility changes hands

Responsibility for water pipes in the UK divides at the outside stop valve: the water company from the main to the valve, the property owner from the valve to the home and for everything inside.

In brief

Should an older home have a water meter?

A water meter in an older house is often missing; homes built after 1990 usually have one. WaterSafe says you usually have a right to request one free, unless fitting it is impractical or too expensive.

Finding a WaterSafe plumber, and when notice is due

A WaterSafe approved plumber can give a work completed certificate, which WaterSafe describes as a legal defence. The free register helps with the fittings rules, which place duties on owners and occupiers, not only tradespeople.
